Education Beyond Reports: A Teacher’s Reflection

Education Beyond Reports: A Teacher’s Reflection

This is a deeply emotional and challenging time for all of us in Assam. Amidst grief and personal reflection, I feel compelled to share my thoughts—not out of criticism, but out of sincere concern for the future of our children and the state of education.

In recent times, there has been increasing pressure on teachers: districts are expected to appear in green on Excel sheets, photographs must be uploaded, and reports must be completed with precision. While I understand the importance of monitoring and accountability, I cannot help but ask—Are these tasks becoming more important than the real purpose of education?

As teachers, our greatest responsibility is to nurture young minds, inspire curiosity, and shape values. If we focus only on documentation and superficial metrics, we risk creating a generation that excels in completing checklists but struggles with critical thinking, empathy, and creativity.

I am aware that my words might be interpreted differently by some. I may even be perceived as questioning the system or creating mismanagement in the ongoing efforts toward a so-called developing scenario of education. Let me make it very clear: that is not my intention. We are all here with the same goal—to make our State excel in every field and contribute to making our Bharat a true Vishwaguru.

What truly matters is not the color of a cell in a spreadsheet, nor the number of uploaded images, but the lives we touch, the minds we inspire, and the values we instill. Let us remember why we became teachers—to educate, to guide, and to ignite the light of knowledge in every child.

Even in a system that sometimes seems obsessed with reports, I believe that the heart of education remains with us—the teachers. We have the power to shape the future, to nurture generations who will make our society stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. That is the legacy I hope we all strive to leave behind.
