Because it must be tested, hypotheses should be very specific and limited to the research project at hand. The purpose of a hypothesis is to guide the researcher by defining the research area and keeping him on track. It sharpens his thinking and concentrates his attention on the more critical aspect of the problem.The type of data needed and the technique of data analysis to be employed are also specified in the hypothesis.
